Heated floors, otherwise known as radiant floor heating, may initially strike you as nothing more than an unnecessary luxury. But, once you have tried it, that line between what you need and what you want may just become blurry. So, keep an open mind on this option.
The most popular of radiant floor heating choices is electric. This involves inserting individual wires, or wire mesh between the upper layer and lower layer of the flooring. The top portion is called the finished layer, while the bottom is referred to as the substrate.
However, there are also air and hydronic radiant flooring options to consider. Radiant air floors use tubes filled with hot air to warm the surface. Hydronic radiant heat passes running hot water through tubes to create the warmth. They vary in pricing, and as such could make the difference between you deciding to springing for the heat source, or not.
